Without a scintilla of self-doubt, I believe that I am as patriotic a Nigerian citizen as the word patriotism can permit. In the core of my being, I possess a fierce and passionate belief in the unity and potential greatness of my beloved Nigeria. I am by every means a modern-day nationalist, believing very strongly in the power of the individual citizen to act as a catalyst of positive change in a country that is acutely enmeshed in some deep socio-economic and political quagmire.
There is no need to over flog the several problems facing our dear Nigeria in this piece, as even primary school children are well aware of the factors of poor leadership and wanton corruption that has paralysed our progress from the onset. Today, my conviction that Nigeria will witness commensurate measures of development in sync with the vast resources and prospects the country possesses, is predicated on the simple logic that when you and I have had enough of this rabid stagnation, we will rise to the occasion and obey the call of the fatherland to orchestrate a systemic change across our political spectrum, ushering in the kind of visionary leadership that will take us to the promised land.
We have grumbled, we have ranted, we have complained with bitter vehemence for decades on end, yet the status quo has remained ever stolid and statuesque, unmoveable and unshakeable, in spite of our bitter noises. The question is when are we, as enlightened citizens going to take the bull by the horns and assume the responsibility for making a sustainable change in our beloved country? Yes we have been battered and oppressed by decades of misrule, intimidation and political shenanigans, our votes rendered ineffectual by atrocious rigging, but then, how will Nigeria change if we all stay put in the state of oppression our tyrant leaders have consigned us to? Isn’t it high time we begin to shake off the chains of oppression that has held us bound with nonchalant ease?
This is a clarion call and an appeal to you out there to join hands with what we’re trying to do through this medium, towards effecting a change in this country on the long-run. In this day and age, we have the power of the social media, amongst others to rally all like-minds who are willing to lend a voice towards change in Nigeria. Our objective is to aggregate our collective voices into a single powerful voice that will be heard when we speak, and that will make an impact on the electoral process in Nigeria, given a little while. Once more, I appeal to you to join hands with the Nigerian Dream Project as we strive to make Nigeria the country of our dreams, a country that is fitting for our children’s future. As the popular Chinese proverb states: a journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step; I implore you to join this chariot today and let’s build a new Nigeria together, because we can. Yes we can!
